elevator-pitchjpgLately I’ve been espousing the wonders of Twitter, and I think that I could find a simpler way to describe it. So here I go.

Picture that everyone that you want to be in contact with lives in a high rise building. You get on the elevator and inside there is a random selection of people that you know. Some you know well, some you may have met only once. You can choose to say hello, join in a conversation that is already going on, or you can kick back and listen. But each time you get on the elevator there is a new mix of people that you find interesting who may be talking about things that you enjoy.

Twitter is like that to me. It’s not pressure to read every single post from every single person.

Expanding on the analogy slightly, if I wanted to talk to people who are discussing, say, “ham sandwiches” I could simply get off of my regular elevator and take the “ham sandwich” one where it’s likely that I’ll make a new friend whom I may see in the regular elevator someday, with a ham sandwich.
